2016 Nan Songer Distinguished Member Award Recipient Debra Giugliano

Debra Giugliano, RN, CPNP, CPON, is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and Director of the School Intervention and Re-entry Program at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, on Long Island, NY.

Debbie was a member of the original working group assembled by Nan Songer in 2005 to share best practices and begin the discussion of standardizing our work.  She has since attended every Working Meeting.  As Chair of the Editorial Committee, Debbie has worked diligently on the development and publication of the APHOES Practice Recommendations.

Debbie served as the first Vice-chair of the APHOES Executive Board, serving two terms, and also served as a Member-at-large.

As a certified Pediatric Oncology Nurse Practitioner Debbie has always had a particular interest in the educational needs of children with cancer.  After witnessing the struggles of her patients, Debbie founded School Intervention and Re-Entry Program at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital in 1999, and is currently the director of the program.  She has presented nationally on the development and successful implementation a hospital school re-entry program, and hosts an annual community School Re-entry Conference at her institution.  Additionally, Debbie is the author of a children’s book that addresses re-entering school after being diagnosed with cancer.

APHOES is pleased to present Debbie Giugliano with this year’s

Nan Songer Distinguished Member Award.
