Thanks to all who joined us for the 2016 APHOES and AECMN Joint National Conference!!

APHOES and AECMN joined together for a third joint national conference     May 4 -6, 2016.  St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN hosted the conference.

Approximately 160 professionals from the two organizations joined together to address educational needs and discover way to improve school outcomes for the pediatric hematology-oncology population and patients with various chronic medical conditions.  Members of both organizations shared ideas, research and interventions that could improve the educational outcomes for students with medical needs.

Conference attendees learned techniques for managing compassion fatigue through interactive sessions led by keynote speaker, Françoise Mathieu, director of Compassion Fatigue Solutions Inc.  Additionally, participants gained insight into the work of the Pediatric Genome Project led by President and CEO of St. Jude's Research Hospital, James R. Downing, MD.

On May 4, 2016 APHOES and AECMN again held working group meetings for new and veteran members. This all-day event allowed committees and group members to spend time working toward established goals.

Additionally, the joint APHOES/AECMN Legislative Committee members had an opportunity to meet in a larger group to continue work toward legislative initiatives.

Overall, participants enjoyed the opportunity to network, reconnect, and brainstorm ways to facilitate positive academic outcomes for the patients we serve.
