Webinar- Pediatric Brain Tumor Survivors - Supporting Their Educational Needs

Register now!

With the advancement of medical treatments for childhood cancer, survival rates for pediatric cancer patients have increased significantly. As long-term survival rates increase, however, the neurocognitive deficits associated with particular types of treatments have become apparent. Many survivors face significant challenges upon their return to school and throughout their academic career. In the short-term, children’s extended absences due to illness may require both academic intervention as well as social support. In the long-term, these children may require extensive accommodations and individualized programs to facilitate their educational growth and development.

This presentation, delivered by Directors from the Dana Farber/Boston Children's Cancer and Blood Disorder Center's School Liaison Program, is designed to provide background information on the neurocognitive sequelae of pediatric cancer survivors and how these difficulties impact their educational experience. Presenters will discuss appropriate steps necessary to identify your child’s individualized needs and to access appropriate school-based supports and services. A hospital based model of care for school support will be identified and presenters will recommend ways to accessing support from your child’s medical team.
