Hospital Educator and Academic Liaison Association

A new website is currently under development for the Hospital Educator and Academic Liaison Association.

We are working to combine membership databases to reflect accurate renewal dates. If you are looking to renew your membership prior to the launch of the new site, please contact us at info@healassociation.org.

Dear Colleague,

Welcome to the official site of the Association of Pediatric Hematology Oncology Educational Specialists (APHOES). We are excited you chose to explore our website and hope that you will consider joining us as a member.

In 2005, a diverse group of professionals including nurses, psychologists, social workers, child life specialists, and school and hospital-based educators joined to create a nonprofit professional organization dedicated to addressing the educational needs of pediatric hematology and oncology patients through collaboration.

In the years that followed, APHOES became an official organization and also published Practice Recommendations intended to guide professionals in their work with patients to achieve optimal educational outcomes.  A link to these recommendations can be found here. We hope you will find them helpful in your everyday encounters with schools, patients and families.  Our members continue to be active in other APHOES-related initiatives involving research, policy reform, and ongoing professional development.

Each spring, APHOES hosts a professional conference for those who work to support the educational needs of children affected by cancer and blood disorders. This annual event offers attendees the chance to participate in enriching educational sessions, earn contact hours, and network with other professionals. The 2016 conference, hosted by St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, was a joint conference with the AECMN organization. It was nice to see familiar faces and meet some new ones as we gathered together in Memphis to learn and work together toward furthering the educational needs of children affected by pediatric cancers and blood disorders.

We hope you will choose to join us by becoming a member of APHOES. A membership application is available on our website. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me at (617) 632-6764 or email me at lisa_northman@dfci.harvard.edu. I hope to see you at our upcoming conference!

Sincerely,

Lisa Northman, PhD
